PHYSICIAN PROFILE

Dr. Heather Volpp, MD — Integrative Medicine Physician, Encinitas, CA

Why a Board-Certified Internist Built an Ozone Therapy Clinic

After 15 years as an allergy-immunology specialist, Dr. Heather Volpp realized conventional medicine was missing something fundamental: it was treating symptoms instead of investigating root cause. That clinical gap led her to build SynergyO3 — a physician-led practice grounded in 25+ years of medical training and rigorous clinical thinking.

The Clinical Realization That Changed Everything

In traditional allergy medicine, Dr. Volpp had a toolkit: antihistamines, immunotherapy, corticosteroids. These tools worked for hay fever and seasonal allergies. But they fell short for the patients she saw walking through her door with:

Joint Pain & Fatigue

Complex, systemic complaints that didn't fit a single diagnosis but were clearly rooted in inflammation.

Loss of Mental Clarity

Cognitive fog that conventional workups couldn't explain or address.

Mysterious Cardiovascular Events

Seemingly healthy patients — lean, exercising, eating well — suffering unexpected cardiac episodes.

The common thread? Inflammation. Oxidative burden. Immune dysregulation. Standard allergy medicine could not investigate these root causes — only manage the symptoms they produced. Dr. Volpp recognized that this wasn't a failure of her patients to follow advice; it was a limitation of the model itself.

Her Training Built the Foundation

Dr. Volpp's medical education wasn't narrow. Cedars-Sinai residency trained her in the full scope of internal medicine — not just one organ system. UCLA's allergy-immunology fellowship taught her how the immune system works at a mechanistic level, not just how to suppress it temporarily.

That rigorous foundation didn't disappear when she pivoted to functional medicine. Instead, it became her lens: What if we applied deep immunological and systemic thinking to the conditions conventional practice had written off as "complex" or "idiopathic"?

EBOO ozone therapy, HOCATT, PEMF, and other regenerative protocols aren't departures from her training — they're applications of it. Each protocol works by activating your body's own healing mechanisms: your antioxidant defenses, your immune regulation, your cellular recovery. She didn't abandon clinical rigor; she expanded it.

"I was in private practice allergy and immunology for 15 years. I saw numerous patients with fairly large systemic complaints — ranging from joint pain, fatigue, loss of mental clarity — that could not be addressed or explained by traditional medicine. This showed me that we weren't addressing underlying problems, mainly inflammation, as a root cause."

CLINICAL APPROACH

Her Clinical Philosophy: Three Principles

Root Cause, Not Symptoms

Don't suppress inflammation — investigate why it's there. Don't manage fatigue — restore the cellular function that drives energy. The symptom is a signal; the investigation is the work.

Biology, Not Buzzwords

Every protocol works by activating your body's own healing mechanisms: your antioxidant defenses, immune regulation, cellular recovery. The science matters. The mechanism matters. The results are individual and honest.

Integration, Not Opposition

SynergyO3 works alongside your conventional medical care, not against it. Dr. Volpp reviews all your medications, coordinates with your primary physician, and recommends conventional care when appropriate. This is medicine in partnership.

Dr. Heather Volpp MD at SynergyO3 Medical, Encinitas California

San Diego Native, Encinitas Resident, and Community Clinician

Dr. Volpp is a North County San Diego native who has invested her entire clinical career in this community. She lived through the evolution of healthcare in our region, watched conventional medicine reach its limits for her patients, and chose to build SynergyO3 here — not in a major metropolitan hub, but in the place she calls home.

When she's not in the clinic, she lives in Encinitas with her husband and four children. She's a self-described "crazy soccer and lacrosse mom," runner, tennis player, and cook. She speaks English and Spanish fluently. Her approach to medicine reflects her approach to life: practical, grounded, committed to understanding what actually works rather than what sounds good.

She's built SynergyO3 not as a franchise or a brand-building exercise, but as the clinic she would want to visit — and the place where she wants to practice medicine for the next phase of her career.
