Everything patients ask us most — how to begin, what medical ozone is and isn’t, what treatment feels like, what it costs, and who it isn’t right for. Answered by Dr. Heather Volpp, MD and the SynergyO3 clinical team.
Physician-SupervisedDr. Heather Volpp, MD — ABIMEncinitas, CA
How care begins here, before any treatment is on the table.
No referral is required. No consultation is required to book, either. Dr. Heather Volpp, MD reviews every patient’s health profile and will let you know if a consultation is recommended before your first treatment. A $150 phone consultation is available on request — credited toward your first EBOO treatment. If you’re already working with a primary physician or specialist, we coordinate alongside that care rather than replacing it.
Request an appointment through the form on our Schedule page, or call (760) 450-4602. Tell us a little about what you’re dealing with and we’ll match you with the right first step — no commitment, no pressure. We typically respond within one business day.
Before any treatment begins, Dr. Heather Volpp reviews your complete health history, labs, and goals. Every protocol is physician-designed for your specific biology.
45–60 minutes · Phone or in-clinic · $150, credited toward your first EBOO treatmentYes. The $150 phone consultation fee credits toward your first EBOO treatment.
Start with the consultation rather than with a specific therapy. Dr. Volpp reviews your history and recommends the path — EBOO, the HOCATT™ ozone sauna, diagnostics such as the PULS cardiac test, or a combination. Not every therapy is appropriate for every patient, and she’ll tell you directly if something isn’t a fit.
What it is, what it isn’t, and how the therapies differ.
Medical ozone is a therapeutic form of medical-grade ozone — distinct from atmospheric pollution. It has been used in clinical practice for over a century, with a well-documented safety profile and an extensive body of peer-reviewed research.
Ozone (O₃) is a highly reactive molecule. When introduced to the body at precise, controlled concentrations, it triggers your antioxidant defense systems — the same systems activated by exercise, heat, and cold exposure. Read the full explanation on Medical Ozone.
No. Medical ozone is pharmaceutical-grade O₃ generated from pure oxygen at precise concentrations — measured in micrograms per milliliter. This is fundamentally different from atmospheric ozone pollution, which contains contaminants and occurs at uncontrolled concentrations.
No. Medical ozone therapies — including EBOO and the HOCATT™ ozone sauna — are not FDA-approved as treatments for any specific condition. Medical ozone has a long history of clinical use in Europe and is studied in peer-reviewed literature, but it falls outside standard FDA approval pathways as a therapy.
At SynergyO3, these therapies are offered as adjunctive support — meaning they work alongside, not in place of, evidence-based medical care. Dr. Volpp is transparent about this distinction with every patient.
No. Ozone is never inhaled at SynergyO3. In the HOCATT™ sauna, ozone is absorbed transdermally through your skin inside the sealed chamber — your head stays outside and you breathe normal room air, often with supplemental oxygen. In EBOO, ozone is introduced into your blood inside a sterile, single-use circuit outside the body.
EBOO runs your blood through a sterile, single-use filter while continuously ozonating and oxygenating it — a larger volume than a single blood-draw method. Other approaches include Major Autohemotherapy (also called 10-pass), transdermal ozone (the HOCATT™ sauna), and prolozone injections. See our Compare Ozone Treatments page for a side-by-side.
The questions patients ask most before their first session.
You’ll feel two small needle placements, similar to a blood draw, then rest reclined for about an hour — many patients read or relax. Afterward, some report a lift in energy or mental clarity; others feel tired and simply need rest and hydration. There’s no single ‘right’ way to feel, and responses vary from person to person.
Plan for roughly an hour of treatment, reclined. With consultation and setup, budget about 75–90 minutes for your first visit.
It varies by person and goal. Dr. Volpp reviews your history during consultation and recommends a protocol; many patients choose a 3- or 5-session package.
Yes — EBOO is offered as adjunctive support that works alongside your existing medical care, never as a replacement. Share your medications and current treatments with Dr. Volpp so she can coordinate safely, and continue seeing your primary and specialist physicians.
A cellular byproduct collects in a filter cup as your blood circulates. Its color and content vary between patients and sessions, and researchers are still characterizing exactly what it contains. We focus on how you respond to treatment rather than the appearance of the cup.
What a 30-minute session actually involves.
The session itself is about 30 minutes. With intake and a short cool-down, plan for roughly 45 to 60 minutes at your visit.
You’ll have a private changing space and towels. Your body is inside the chamber with a towel while your head remains outside in fresh air the entire session.
Expect gentle steam and warmth like a comfortable sauna. Most patients feel relaxed during and clear and energized afterward, though some feel tired and need rest. Individual results vary.
It depends on your goals. Dr. Volpp recommends a cadence during consultation; many patients choose the 10-session package for ongoing protocols.
Who these therapies aren’t for. We’d rather tell you before you book.
Yes. EBOO isn’t right for everyone. Contraindications include pregnancy or breastfeeding, G6PD deficiency (favism), active bleeding disorders or anticoagulant therapy, recent heart attack or stroke, and uncontrolled hyperthyroidism. If you have one, Dr. Volpp will tell you directly and, where appropriate, suggest a safer alternative. A review of your history is required before any treatment.
Yes. HOCATT may not be appropriate during pregnancy, with certain cardiovascular conditions, uncontrolled hyperthyroidism, or if you cannot tolerate heat. Dr. Volpp reviews your history and recommends a modified approach or different therapy when needed.
You breathe clean, supplemental oxygen throughout and never inhale ozone; your head stays outside the chamber. A trained provider stays with you and can stop the session at any time, and Dr. Volpp screens every patient for contraindications first.
Yes — always, including over-the-counter supplements. Share your medications and current treatments with Dr. Volpp so she can coordinate safely, and continue seeing your primary and specialist physicians. Some medications, such as anticoagulant therapy, are a contraindication for EBOO.
There is an established prep and aftercare protocol, and it varies by treatment. Dr. Volpp gives you the guidance specific to your protocol before your visit, and again afterward, so you’re never guessing.
After an EBOO session that includes hydration and the cadence of any follow-up sessions. Some patients report a lift in energy; others feel tired and simply need rest and hydration — both are normal, and responses vary from person to person.
Injectables, lasers, and RF microneedling — timelines and who performs them.
Liz Lee RN performs and oversees the aesthetic treatments at SynergyO3 — Dysport®, Restylane® Kysse, Genius™ RF microneedling, and the Lutronic laser platforms. Injections are never delegated.
Plan for a 60–90 minute appointment, including 30–45 minutes for topical numbing. Post-treatment skin appears pink and slightly textured for 2–4 days. Collagen remodeling is gradual — peak results are typically seen at 6–12 months, and many patients see continued improvement for up to 12 months after a final treatment. Individual results vary.
60–90 min appointment · 3–5 days downtime · 6–12 months to peak resultsResults usually emerge over 3–5 days as the neuromuscular block establishes — some patients see an effect in as little as 2–3 days. Full effect is typically visible by day 14, with results lasting 3–4 months for most patients. As acetylcholine signaling gradually recovers, muscle activity returns to baseline. Individual results vary.
Results are visible immediately after injection. Some swelling is normal in the first 24–48 hours; the final result is assessed at the 2-week follow-up. Hyaluronic acid is naturally metabolized over 9–12 months, so volume diminishes gradually — you can maintain, adjust, or discontinue at your own pace.
Dysport® (abobotulinumtoxinA) is FDA-approved for glabellar lines and has a well-established 20+ year safety profile in clinical use. This is a different regulatory category from our ozone therapies, which are not FDA-approved. Liz Lee RN will explain exactly what is being used, and at what dose, before treatment.
